"Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you now dismiss your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen your salvation..."
Where then are the gods you made for yourselves? Let them come if they can save you when you are in trouble! For you have as many gods as you have towns, O Judah.
Daniel replied, "No wise man, enchanter, magician or diviner can explain to the king the mystery he has asked about, but there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries."
As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.
Jesus would not entrust himself to them [the crowd], for he knew all men. He did not need man's testimony about man, for he knew what was in a man.
For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.
"[Jesus] was handed over to you by God's set purpose and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross."
Stop trusting in man, who has but a breath in his nostrils. Of what account is he?
Be not afraid, O land (of Judah); be glad and rejoice. Surely the Lord has done great things.
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
I will betroth you to me forever; I will betroth you in righteousness and justice, in love and compassion. I will betroth you in faithfulness, and you will acknowledge the Lord.
The Lord God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him."
The arrogance of man will be brought low and the pride of men humbled; the Lord alone will be exalted in that day, and the idols will totally disappear.
"I hate divorce," says the Lord God of Israel, ..."So guard yourself in your spirit, and do not break faith."
Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe.
For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.
[The Lord declares,] "Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and he relents from sending calamity."
"Be appalled at this, O heavens, and shudder with great horror," declares the Lord. "My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water."
Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you.
For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
"Woe to him who builds his realm by unjust gain to set his nest on high, to escape the clutches of ruin!"
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith — and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God — not by works, so that no one can boast.
...the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.
So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.
Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped...
But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions — it is by grace you have been saved.
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.
From inside the fish Jonah prayed ... "In my distress I called to the Lord, and he answered me. From the depths of the grave I called for help, and you listened to my cry."
My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense — Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.
