For this world in its present form is passing away.
[When Jesus was teaching in the temple courts, the people rejected his teaching, and] they tried to seize him, but no one laid a hand on him, because his time had not yet come. Still, many in the crowd put their faith in him. They said, "When the Christ comes, will he do more miraculous signs than this man?"
[King David was humbled that God had chosen him, and his "house," his descendants, to be on the throne forever. So, David responded:] "Now be pleased to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever in your sight; for you, O Sovereign Lord, have spoken, and with your blessing the house of your servant will be blessed forever."
When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.
[Some in the questioning crowd, said the following about Jesus:] "But we know where this man is from; when the Christ comes, no one will know where he is from."
Do not bring a detestable thing into your house or you, like it, will be set apart for destruction. Utterly abhor and detest it, for it is set apart for destruction.
Moses thought that his own people would realize that God was using him to rescue them, but they did not.
What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God — through Jesus Christ our Lord!
[The word of the Lord came to Ezekiel and said: "This is what the Sovereign Lord says to the land of Israel...] Prepare chains, because the land is full of bloodshed and the city is full of violence."
[King David went in and sat before the Lord, and he said:] "How great you are, O Sovereign Lord! There is no one like you, and there is no God but you, as we have heard with our own ears."
[Speaking to the Israelites about their enemies, Moses said:] "Do not be terrified by them, for the Lord your God, who is among you, is a great and awesome God."
There is not a righteous man on earth who does what is right and never sins.
[Moses addressed Israel, reminding them of God's deliverance of them from Egypt, and his commands given to them:] "You saw with your own eyes the great trials, the miraculous signs and wonders, the mighty hand and outstretched arm, with which the Lord your God brought you out [from bondage and delivered you.]. The Lord your God will do the same to all the peoples you now fear."
[When Daniel was alarmed by his visions of the future, he approached one of those standing by him in his visions. The presence told Daniel:] "But the saints of the Most High will receive the kingdom and will possess it forever — yes, for ever and ever."
[One of the elders from around the throne of God declared:] "For [Jesus] the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; he will lead them to springs of living water. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes."
[After Jesus had raised the son of the widow from Nain: Those in the crowd who saw this] were all filled with awe and praised God. "A great prophet has appeared among us," they said. "God has come to help his people."
[Jesus challenged the outward show of religiosity among religious people who were ignoring their inner need to be humble and pure before God. He said:] "Nothing outside a person can defile them by going into them. Rather, it is what comes out of a person that defiles them.'"
[The Lord appeared to Solomon upon the completion of the temple and said,] "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land."
[Jesus said,] "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it."
[Jesus taught his disciples, saying:] "So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets."
[Job declared,] "Therefore I will not keep silent; I will speak out in the anguish of my spirit, I will complain in the bitterness of my soul."
And [the great multitude from every nation, tribe, people, and language] cried out in a loud voice: "Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb."
O righteous God, who searches minds and hearts, bring to an end the violence of the wicked and make the righteous secure.
[The Sovereign Lord said to Israel:] "I am about to pour out my wrath on you and spend my anger against you; I will judge you according to your conduct and repay you for all your detestable practices."
[Jesus promised his disciples,] "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened."
But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.
If you really change your ways and your actions and deal with each other justly, if you do not oppress the foreigner, the fatherless, or the widow and do not shed innocent blood in this place, and if you do not follow other gods to your own harm, then I will let you live in this place, in the land I gave your ancestors for ever and ever.
The wife's body does not belong to her alone but also to her husband. In the same way, the husband's body does not belong to him alone but also to his wife. Do not deprive each other except by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Reform your ways and your actions, and I will let you live in this place.
For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
O Lord my God, I take refuge in you; save and deliver me from all who pursue me...
