오늘의 묵상
겸손함이란, 하나님께서 우리를 만드신 목적을 깨닫는 것이며 동시에 그런 깨달음을 통해 타인을 섬기고 구해내는 것입니다. 예수님의 삶처럼 겸손하게 산다면, 단순히 황금율 — (역주: "네 이웃을 네 몸과 같이 사랑하여라" (마 22:39) -만을 실천하는 것이 아니라, 한걸음 더 나아가게 됩니다. 즉, 우리자신을 대하는 것보다 다른 이들을 더 귀하게 대접해주는 것입니다. 우리가 결함이 있거나 하찮기 때문에 그들을 높이는 것일까요? 아닙니다! 예수님은 고귀하시고 영광스러운 분이셨으나, 사람들을 구원하시려고 자신을 희생하실 때, 자신보다 타인들을 더 귀중히 여기셨습니다. 이것은 높은 기준이며 동시에 어려운 귀감입니다. 두려워 떠는 겁쟁이들이 할 수 있는 것이 아닙니다. 궁극적으로는 영광스러워질 행동입니다. (힌트를 드리자면, 이후의 9-10절을 읽으면서, 믿는 자들에게 주실 큰 상급을 기억해보시기 바랍니다)
Thoughts on Today's Verse...
Humility is recognizing who we would be without God's grace and using that recognition to serve and redeem others. Living in humility as Jesus did, we don't just practice the golden rule but go one step better — we treat others better than we would treat ourselves. Are we instructed to do this because we're unworthy or unfit? No! Jesus was worthy and glorious, but he chose to treat others better than himself when he sacrificed himself to redeem all of us. It's a high standard. It's a demanding standard. It is not for wimps or pretenders. But it is a must for all of Jesus' disciples. Why? Genuine humility is ultimately glorious. (Hint: Read down through Philippians 2:10 and remember that the same type of reward will be given to the faithful!)

전능하신 하나님, 나를 당신의 자녀로 입양하여 주셔서 감사하고, 당신 앞에서 성스럽고 귀중하게 만들어 주시어 감사합니다. 저를 도우셔서 당신께서 저를 보시듯 제 자신을 보게 해 주시고, 당신의 귀중한 자녀들 중 한명처럼 타인들이 당신의 영광을 보게 섬기도록 제게 힘을 주시옵소서. 예수님 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.
My Prayer...
Almighty God, thank you for adopting me as your child and making me holy and precious. Please help me to see myself as you do, and then, as one of your precious children, empower me by the Holy Spirit to serve others in ways that help them see your glory. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
