오늘의 묵상
예수님께서는 십자가로 걸어가시기 전에, 십자가 중심의 공동체에서 살아간다는 것이 어떤 것인지를 제자들에게 몸소 보여주셨습니다: 가정집에서 부리는 노예같은 지위를 선택하셔서 제자들의 발을 씻기신 것입니다. 그들이 예수님으로부터 도망가고, 연을 끊고, 배신하고, 거절할 것이라는 것을 다 알면서도 그렇게 하셨습니다. 이것은 믿을 수 없을 만큼 놀랍습니다! 하지만 저도 그렇게 해야 한다고 예수께서 말씀하고 계십니다. "내가 고통당하고 죽기까지 하여 사랑한 그들을 네가 사랑하지 않는다면, 너는 나를 사랑한다고 말할 수 없다" 라고 말입니다. (요한1서 3:14-18 및 4:7-12 참조)
Thoughts on Today's Verse...
Before Jesus went to the cross, he showed his disciples what living in a cross-centered community means. He took the position of a household slave and washed his disciples' feet. He did it knowing they would run from him, disown him, betray him, and deny him. He washed THOSE dirty feet — their feet. Incredible! But he also says that I'm to do it, too. "You can't say you love me," Jesus says, "if you won't love those I suffered and died to save" (1 John 3:14-18, 4:7-12).
내 기도
오 하나님, 제 선생님이시며 주님의 독생자이신 분을 닮기 원합니다. 이기적으로 추구하는 것들을 단념하고, 주님의 자녀들을 진정으로 섬기기 원합니다. 비록 그들이 제게 친절하지 않더라도 말입니다. 이런 깨달음대로 살아가기 위한 힘과 용기와 인내심을 제게 주셔서, 그리스도의 성품을 더욱 온전히 반영할 수 있도록 하시옵소서. 나의 주 예수님의 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.
My Prayer...
O God, I want to be like my Teacher and your Son. I renounce my self-seeking ways so that I can genuinely serve your children, my brothers and sisters — even those who may not be kind to me. Please give me the strength, courage, and patience to live up to these convictions and more perfectly reflect the character of Jesus in my life. In the name of Christ Jesus, my Lord, I pray. Amen.
