오늘의 묵상
노력, 땀, 헌 신이란 요소들은, 서구 기독교에서는 마치 불경스러운 말처럼 취급을 받는 것같습니다. 성령께서는 "은혜"를 남발하는 이 세대에서 그분의 진리를 펼치시며, 지구상의 사람들-예수님의 지체된 성도들까지도-사이의 관계를 위해서 엄청난 노력, 굳센 사랑, 개인적 희생, 엄중한 결정을 필요로 한다고 다시금 알려주십니다. 요한복음 17장에서 예수님의 연합의 기도를 읽게 되면, 어찌 우리가 그리스도의 몸을 연합하기 위해, 또한 지체들 간의 사랑과 인내를 위해 모든 노력을 하지 않을 수 있을까요? 예수님의 노력과 피로서 우리의 구원을 얻었는데, 어찌 우리가 그리스도의 한몸된 가족의 연합을 지키기 위해 최선을 다하지 않을 수 있겠습니까?
Thoughts on Today's Verse...
Effort, sweat, and dedication seem to have become the profanity of Western Christianity. To our age of grace-abusers and grace-cheapeners who don't see acts of obedient faith as necessary to authentic discipleship, the Holy Spirit reaches out with his truth. The Spirit reminds us that relationships on earth, even those in Jesus' family, require patient effort, gritty love, personal sacrifice, gracious forgiveness, and rigorous determination. If we read Jesus' prayer for unity in John 17:20-21, how could we not make every effort to keep his Body unified and be loving and patient with each other? Since Jesus purchased our salvation with his sweat, grace, and blood, how can we balk when our passionate efforts are required to preserve the unity and peace of Jesus' family?

사랑하는 하늘 아버지, 이웃에게 대해 인내하지 못함과 용서하지 못함을 용서해 주십시오. 제 안에 당신의 성령을 일으키셔서 제 혀를 제어하시고, 제 마음을 부드럽게 하시고, 당신의 축복을 필요로 하는 이들에게 노력을 더하게 해 주십시오. 오 주님, 당신의 나라에서 저를 평화를 이루는 사람(peacemaker)으로 사용해 주십시오. 예수님 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.
My Prayer...
Dear Heavenly Father, forgive my impatience with others and my lack of forgiveness for them. Holy Spirit, change my heart to do better in these things. Stir your Spirit within me to curb my tongue, soften my heart, and extend more effort to others who need your blessing. Please, dear Father, use me to be a peacemaker in your Kingdom. I ask this, O Lord, in Jesus' name. Amen.
