오늘의 묵상
"명심하고 힘써 행하십시오!"라는 말씀은, 오늘날의 상투적 표현과는 다릅니다. 우리들은 뭐든 쉽게 쉽게 풀리는 것을 원하지요. 믿음 없 는 이 세상은 땀(sweat)을 흘리려 하지 않습니다. 하지만 바울은 디모데(와 우리들)에게 그리스도 안에서의 성숙은 진실로 노력이 필요함을 알아야 한다고 말합니다. 타인들에게 구원의 영향력(redemptive influence)을 끼친다는 것은 어려운 작업입니다. 하나님의 능력으로 변화되지만, 우리의 노력도 역시 요구되는 것입니다. 하나님께서는 우리의 이런 노력이 삶 속에서 열매를 맺을 뿐 아니라, 이웃을 구원으로 이끌 것이라는 확증을 주십니다.
Thoughts on Today's Verse...
"Be diligent!" That's not a phrase, a command you hear much about these days. We want things to come easily. Sweat in the world of pseudo-faith is frowned upon. But Paul wanted Timothy (and us) to know that maturity in Christ requires genuine effort — as Paul said, "give yourself wholly to them" and "persevere in them." Having a redemptive influence on others is hard work. While it is God's power that transforms, our efforts are also required if others are going to see our progress and follow our examples. God assures us that our efforts will bear fruit in our lives and lead others to salvation.

Abba Father, please stir my confidence, courage, diligence, and determination so that I can share the salvation you have lavished on me can be shared with others through my teaching and my example. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
