오늘의 묵상
모호한 번역 때문에 진정한 뜻이 숨겨져버린, 결정적 문장의 뜻은 이것입니다: "너희가 '나는 곧 나' (I AM)인 것을 믿지 않으면, 너희는 너희 죄 가운데서 죽을 것이다." 요한이 종종 표현하는 것처럼, 간단한 문장 속에 의미들을 꾹꾹 눌러 담아, 예수님을 급격히 새로운 시각으로 보게 이끌어주고 있습니다. 예수님은 "나는 곧 나"(I AM) 이시며 우리와 함께 계신 하나님이십니다. 어떻게 하나님이 우리를 이렇게나 사랑하실 수 있을까요? 이에 대한 온전한 답은 알수 없을 듯 합니다만, 우리는 확실히 믿고 기뻐하며 그분의 영광을 위해 살 수 있답니다.
Thoughts on Today's Verse...
The crucial phrase in Scripture, somewhat disguised by our translations, is: "Unless you believe that I AM, then you will indeed die in your sins." As John so often does, he grabs a simple phrase, fills it full to the brim with meaning, and leads us to see Jesus in a dramatically fresh way. Jesus is I AM (Exodus 3:13-14 — See Jesus' seven "I AM" statements in John's gospel.) Jesus is God with us in human flesh (John 1:14-18; Hebrews 1:1-3). How could God love us so much and come to us as Immanuel, God with us? (Matthew 1:23) We can't fully grasp the depth of God's love, but we can surely believe, be humbled, rejoice, and choose to live to bring I AM, the Lord, the glory due him (Philippians 2:6-11).

거룩하시며 의로우신 하나님, 예수님을 주셔서 감사드립니다. 또한 예수님 존재의 모든 의미와, 그분께서 나를 위해 행하신 모든 것들로 인해 감사드립니다. 당신의 영광과 예수님의 이름을 위하여, 당신께 찬양드립니다. 또한 제가 제 죄 가운데서 죽지 않을 것이라는 당신의 약속에 확신을 가질 수 있음에 감사를 드립니다. 사랑하는 아버지, 무엇보다도 제가 죽은 이후, 당신과 함께 살 것을 확증해 주셨으니, 감사합니다. 아멘.
My Prayer...
Holy and Righteous God, thank you for Jesus. Thank you for all that Jesus is, all he did while on earth, and all he will do when he comes in his glory. I praise you and thank you for giving me confidence that because of Jesus, I will not die in my sins. I believe Jesus is "I AM" who inhabited human flesh. Even more, dear Father, thank you for the assurance that I will live with you forever when I die. All praise to the great I AM! Amen.
